Not a topic I talk about often outside of memeing as it is something of a personal matter. Nonetheless, this is a conversation worth having. Let me start of by saying that this doesn't come from a place to shame or guilt trip anyone.

I believe in celibacy until marriage. The reason I'm not going to approach this singularly from a Christian perspective is because it is clear how the Bible stands in these regards and there are non-religious reasons which also help rationalize. Purity culture can get daunting, however, it's important to understand that biblical standards are given to us not with the purpose of God being authoritarian, but with the purpose to protect our hearts and souls. I think we can see how choosing to go against those principles and securalism in general, led us to where we are today.

It goes without saying that feminism, introduction to birth control, the sexual revolution, and the progressivism of the past century has resulted into the separation of responsibility from intimacy. We are blessed with the miracle of giving birth to life and that is not a miracle to be taken lightly. One of the most important decisions you can make in your life is the one of who you choose to share your bed with. That is not a responsibility to take lightly.

Even though purity has always been emphasized for women, and rightfully so, this doesn't apply just to women. But Katya "master key and men and women are different and test drive a car and compatability and blah blah." Cool, nobody is saying that men and women aren't different. Given that we are different biologically means that we will also have different responses and priorities. That's okay, what's not okay is using that as an excuse to justify "spinning plates" and hookup culture. Even if it doesn't impact you on a personal level, it does on a societal one. Furthermore statistics show us that the highest marital satisfaction are between those who both are virgins or have low body counts.

If we're going to want to bring back multigenerational households, reverse the father absence epidemic, refrain from hookup culture, be family oriented, and make necessary changes then we need to start acting in ways that go beyond our hyper individuality and instant gratification, but realise that every action we take will reflect on our future selves, who we are as spouses, who we are as parents, and it having an impact on our communities and overall society.
